History

Mount Duneed Regional Primary School is a small rural school near the top of Mount Duneed, a hill overlooking the countryside between Geelong and Torquay. It was established in 1994 as a result of the merger between Freshwater Creek, Connewarre and Mount Duneed Primary Schools.

The school has landscaped grounds offering a serene rural environment with lovely views to the north and east over Geelong and the Bellarine Peninsula. We are about fifteen minutes by car from Geelong CBD and the same from Torquay. The students travel to school from a radius of 15 kms. Many travel by the school bus which services the areas of Connewarre, Mount Duneed, Freshwater Creek, Armstrong Creek & Breamlea.

Mount Duneed Regional Primary School has 293 students this year, from grades Prep to 6, and 14 classroom teachers. There are part time specialist teachers for Art, PE and Japanese and 5 part time Education Support staff. The number of pupils has increased over the past few years and it is expected that the school will expand steadily in the future with a new suburb planned nearby.

The school offers an Out of School Hours Child Care Program on site for Before and After School Care .

Facilities include eight portable classrooms, a BER flexible learning space of three classrooms, tennis and basketball courts and playing fields. We also have an art room, a music/drama room, a LOTE room and a well resourced library incorporating a computer lab.

Mount Duneed Regional Primary School works closely with neighbouring schools through various cluster activities which include camps, athletics, cross country carnivals and various sporting activities. The cluster also provides an excellent opportunity for teachers to seek various Professional Development opportunities.

Mount Duneed Regional Primary School is committed to educational excellence and the development of a caring and stimulating environment. A culture of team planning and teaching will continue to grow and develop throughout the school. Three learning communities have been established and a literacy coach has been employed to work with staff since 2011. An Inquiry based approach to learning has formed a curriculum framework over the last few years. Teachers are working towards a personalised learning approach for all students and in 2014 we began a whole school focus on Numeracy teaching and learning practices. Our school continues to increase our use of ICT across the curriculum and is enhanced by a 1:1 Netbook Program.

Mount Duneed Regional Primary School is committed to offering programs that support life skills and social skills development for our PSD students and students identified as needing extra support in these areas.

Thanks to the enthusiasm and community spirit the school has a very active body of parents who run fundraising activities.
